For this project, I took inspiration from TheConjuring and focused on creating a dark, horror-themed atmosphere. The scene centers on a cold, shivering man who is drawn toward a cabin bythe river because of a fireplace glowing outside. The warm light tempts him, offering a sense of safety in the otherwise chilling and foggy environment. As he approaches, he gradually realizes that the cabin and surrounding area is and unsafe, enhancing the suspense and horror mood of the scene

I made this cabin model in Blender by starting with a basic blockout to get the shape right, and then adding details like the roof shingles, wooden beams, windows, and stone base
After completing the modeling, I unwrapped the entire cabin in Blender and merged certain parts to keep the UVs organized. I then applied vertex colors to different sections so they can be used as ID masks in Substance Painter. I also assigned basic placeholder materials in Blender with clear names such as wood, stone, roof, glass so that each part is easy to identify when importing into Substance Painter.
For the environment, I created the landscape using a heightmap and then applied a landscape layer painting material to texture the terrain.
For lighting and atmosphere, I added an HDRI backdrop to provide realistic ambient light, used exponential height fog to add depth, and fine-tuned the overall scene using a Post Process Volume.
To complete the scene, I added warm rectangular lights inside the cabin’s windows to create a cozy glow and contrast against the dark forest. The light spreads through the fog and foliage, adding depth and atmosphere to the environment.
