Naturalisation Protocol – Annotation
Written by Avi

This project explores the difference between real human emotion and artificial imitation. It follows an alien being trained to behave like a human, where small mistakes like stiff movements and unnatural timing reveal its true nature.

The café scenes focus on subtle behavioural details, while the lab environment contrasts with a cold, controlled atmosphere and holographic evaluations. The alien expresses emotion freely, whereas the humanoid remains rigid and precise.

By the end, the alien successfully mimics human behaviour, but the difference in how both characters express success highlights the core idea: learning to act human is not the same as being human.

Mocap Session

This video shows the motion capture session for Naturalisation Protocol, focused on recording realistic human behaviour for animation. The captured performance was used to create subtle body language and natural movement for the characters.

My role as a Mocap Coordinator involved setting up the mocap suits and capturing the performance data. Proper suit calibration, accurate tracking, and smooth data recording throughout the session were carried out with the support of Rose.

This process was essential in achieving believable motion, supporting the project’s focus on the difference between natural human behaviour and artificial imitation.

MetaHuman

This video demonstrates the process of creating and integrating clothing for a MetaHuman character. It covers the workflow of preparing, fitting, and refining garments to match the character’s body and movement.

This video demonstrates the process of creating and integrating clothing for a MetaHuman character. It covers the workflow of preparing, fitting, and refining garments to match the character’s body and movement.I was involved in setting up and supporting the technical workflow to ensure the clothing behaved correctly with the character. This included maintaining proper alignment, testing deformation, and ensuring clean integration into the final asset.

This is the process of creating facial animation using data captured through Live Link during a motion capture session. The workflow focuses on transferring recorded facial performance data onto a digital character to achieve natural expressions and lip-sync accuracy.

Final Video

This video presents the final output of Naturalisation Protocol, combining motion capture and visual effects into a complete sequence. The project focuses on subtle human behaviour, using recorded performance data to drive realistic body language and movement.

Making of the Video

This video presents the overall weekly production process of Naturalisation Protocol, covering the development from motion capture to final output.
